Should You Install Your Own Carpeting?

No.

Quality installation is an integral part of quality carpeting. A good installer's skill can add years to the useful life of your carpeting. Likewise, a poor installation job can make a high-quality carpet look and wear like a low-quality one.

In fact, most carpet manufacturers specifically state that their warranties are null and void if the carpeting is not installed by a professional. That's a pretty good indicator of the importance of professional installation.

Saving money by doing your own installation is not a bargain if you are setting yourself up to have to replace your carpet much sooner than would otherwise have been necessary. It's not always a good idea to "do-it-yourself".

If you absolutely insist on installing your own carpeting, there are a few books on the subject available at your local library and bookstore. Read them carefully before you begin.
